There’s a number of factors when closing the store that determines when you’ll be able to get out.
Who’s closing with you is one, and how many. At my store it used to be four people, a manager, and then one person for each ‘place.’ Grill, back drive, and up front.
Then it got cut to three, removing the person up front.
Heck, a lot of times we’ll have only three people in the store from nine at night until we close, two hours later. Which can suck if we get hit.
Another thing that matters is how many customers we get, and when.
One particular night, it’s about fifteen minutes until close, and we suddenly get swarmed with about twelve good sized orders. At this point everything was pretty much cook to order (meaning I had nothing in my cabinets, and had to cook everything), and the manager was running back and forth between drive thru and front counter to hand out orders and take money.
So I jumped back and forth between grill and front, helping with a surprisingly large number of ice cream orders, and then trying to get sandwiches made.
To top it all off, the teenagers who came into the store left a mess.
If we hadn’t gotten all those orders, we would have easily been out maybe thirty minutes sooner.
So remember, if you decide to go to a fast food place when they’re soon to close…Think if it can’t wait until tomorrow, or at least order small.
