Closing Time

There’s a number of factors when closing the store that determines when you’ll be able to get out.

Who’s closing with you is one, and how many. At my store it used to be four people, a manager, and then one person for each ‘place.’ Grill, back drive, and up front.

Then it got cut to three, removing the person up front.

Heck, a lot of times we’ll have only three people in the store from nine at night until we close, two hours later. Which can suck if we get hit.

Another thing that matters is how many customers we get, and when.

One particular night, it’s about fifteen minutes until close, and we suddenly get swarmed with about twelve good sized orders. At this point everything was pretty much cook to order (meaning I had nothing in my cabinets, and had to cook everything), and the manager was running back and forth between drive thru and front counter to hand out orders and take money.

So I jumped back and forth between grill and front, helping with a surprisingly large number of ice cream orders, and then trying to get sandwiches made.

To top it all off, the teenagers who came into the store left a mess.

If we hadn’t gotten all those orders, we would have easily been out maybe thirty minutes sooner.

So remember, if you decide to go to a fast food place when they’re soon to close…Think if it can’t wait until tomorrow, or at least order small.

Closing Time

There are many aspects that I hate about working at McDonalds. One of the biggest is working grill.

I REALLY hate working grill during breakfast, but that’s a post for another day.

Yesterday I helped close, after a few months of being there in the morning. I was there to close grill.

First off, I haven’t actually been in grill during lunch time for a long time in…five, six months, maybe? Except for perhaps a day here and there. More often then not I’m in back drive, or front counter. I usually deal with money.

I do know how to do grill of course. It’s what I first learned and was stuck at for six months before one very awesome manager managed to teach me other positions. Which, once I was put on, was mastered in a shift.

Of course, whoever did the schedule this week didn’t seem to know or realize that I hadn’t closed in a while…or if I’ve even closed grill. I have, but not in a long while. And by nine there was just three people working in the store until we closed. If it gets just a little bit busy, it can be pretty bad, since there’s 4 to 5 spots you want filled then.

So I get to close grill. And unless they call me in for another shift, I’m not in the store again until Friday.

Makes it very, very tempting to just cut corners and do the very bare necessities.

Added to the fact that I’m pretty sure I missed a few things I was suppose to do in closing grill, simply because I had no idea what those things were.

On the plus side, I got to bring home the apple pies we had left over. I actually don’t really like apple pies, but my siblings love them.

As an additional reminder, I do have my ‘Ask’ stuff open, so if you want to ask me something, go ahead! I am currently accepting Anon questions as well.
